Almost Free

Today we didn't have very much time for treasure hunting, which is ok. I got to eat lunch at school with my favorite boy in the whole wide world! and lunch is at 10:30am~ very odd.
Even on a short day I scored some really good deals ~ and I'm keeping all of them, so I can tell you how much they were :)
So here is what $3.50 will buy you in Sun City, AZ....yes all of this.....
Each piece of jewelry was 25cents, the seam binding ribbon was 5 cents, the pink pom pom trim was 5 cents. I'm pretty sure this is the 1st time I have ever bought anything for 5 cents (well at least since I was 4 years old)
The birds were 25 cents, the frame was 25 cents, the wire bell was 25 cents....

This hip, retro scarf was free (yes in the "free" box), I'm going to wear it as a headband....and the large frames were 50 cents....
These pastel paper doilies were 10 cents and the colorful bunch of trims on the bottom right was 5 cents...
And this darling little mirror was 25 cents..... And at a separate yard sale, this little doggie bed was $5 and Lily is using it for a baby bed, oh and add another $1 for the down pillow....Seriously why go to the toy store when you can spend $6 on this!

So get out there tomorrow and Saturday and hit those yard sales ~ trust me it's alot of fun! You may have to drive a little ways (I drive about 30 minutes to get to Sun City where all of the phenomenal deals are), just don't get there before me :)

Wall Art

Thought I would share with you some ideas I have collected about wall art, or just wall paintings. Very cool ideas. I apologize, but I don't know where all of the pictures came from...

I love the bordered pink and white polka dots, looks like a giant picture. I would love to do this in Lily's room. Hanging wall canvas and decorative painting technique underneath (picture from Drooz Studios I believe)

I like how they added paint to the walls to make it look like part of the art on the shelves

I love this memory frame idea, from the lovely Tracy Porter. Just a really neat collection of old things, letters, photos, tickets, postcards....

Tracy Porter painting and frame below...

I love this huge piece of art. It looks like it should be the Declaration of Independence or something....

I like how low they took the pictures here, almost all the way to the floor....
I have this "thing" for empty frames. I think the look is so different and unusual.

And this room is my absolute favorite, a.k.a. my living room :) Alot of people are unsure about my empty frames. I don't care I love them. My goal is to fill up the entire wall. I'm almost there....And here is the long hallway to the kids bedrooms. A gallery of pictures just seemed to work really really well for this space since its about 20 feet long. I made them all cohesive with black and white prints and black frames...and yes I know alot of the pictures are crooked, they always are, even if I fix them everyday - so I don't....

HOLY.......BIBLE!

Today was one of those awesome days. Hubby took the little one to school and the munchkin and I were out the door by 8am hitting the garage sales. It was probably the 3rd one we went to. AAaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh, I heard choruses singing as we pulled up. I spotted the most incredible bird cage I have ever seen sitting in the driveway, so I knew this was going to be a good one! The bird cage was expensive, but I wasn't going to give up easily! The only other thing I picked up was a pair of glass doorknobs, my mom and sister would know the kind - the ones grandma used to have at her house!

I took my time looking around and low and behold - to my surprising eyes did I spot these 3 beauties.....the most gorgeous Bibles I have ever seen IN MY LIFE. The price was like a joke, but we'll talk about that later. I immediately took the sticker off them and found the lady and asked if it was her best price, thinking the initial price was a joke to begin with, so she took $3 off. Woohoo! Are you kidding me?!

Bible #1Bible #2Bible #3 - In my initial search online, I found the same Bible, in better condition, but it was $600. Yes people $600. I won't tell you what I paid for it, I want to keep you guessing. I think the date in it is 1892. :) And I just realized this picture is upsidedown, sorry...
I made phone calls - I needed more money! More money to spend at the best garage sale I have ever been to! My investors came thru for me once again - God Bless Them! So I made a pile the size of my 1-car garage and headed off to get money, they weren't all too pleased to keep it for me, but I promised them I would be back! When I returned I was able to take my time, and I found:
  • Antique statues

  • Alot of antique linens, including a quilt

  • End table, handmade wooden toolbox and small bench

  • hobnail milkglass vase

  • Bird pictures

  • THE birdcage and much, much more......

So here is a horrible picture of the birdcage, sorry I was in a major hurry. She is a beauty and stands about 2 1/2 feet tall.
